Why Girls?

Here is a collection of websites that inspired me and educated me. They are full of resources for the classroom as well as bits you might like to share on FB. Please feel free to pass forward other sites.

  • The Girl Effect

The girl effect is a movement. It’s about leveraging the unique potential of adolescent girls to end poverty for themselves, their families, their communities, their countries and the world. It’s about making girls visible and changing their social and economic dynamics by providing them with specific, powerful and relevant resources.

  • Girl Rising

Girl Rising is a global action campaign for girls’ education, founded by award-winning journalists at The Documentary Group and Paul G. Allen’s Vulcan Productions, along with strategic partner, Intel Corporation. Centered by the new feature film, Girl Rising, Girl Rising uses the power of storytelling and the leverage of strategic partnerships to deliver a simple, critical truth: Educate Girls and you will Change the World.

Because I am a Girl is a global initiative to end gender inequality, promote girls’ rights and lift millions of girls – and everyone around them – out of poverty.

The Because I am a Girl initiative was founded by Plan International, one of the largest international charities in the world. Founded in 1937, Plan has supported girls and boys in the developing world for more than 75 years through collaboration with children, their families, and their communities.

Plan International also has a rather strong presence in Viet Nam. Consider registering with their Gifts of Hope program for you wedding, birthday, or giving them for Christmas. This site also has fantastic downloadable resources.
